About The Position

The position involves conferring with the IEP team regularly to assist in evaluating special education student progress and implementing IEP objectives. The role includes implementing academic instruction designed by a teacher for individuals or small groups to meet learning goals as described by an IEP and/or district benchmarks. Additionally, the position requires implementing behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions to assist in meeting special education students' needs and providing a consistent environment. The individual will instruct special education students in various subjects and skills, maintain instructional materials and student records, monitor students to ensure a safe learning environment, perform record keeping and clerical functions, communicate with surrounding school districts, and attend meetings for information acquisition and dissemination. Additional duties may be required as necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of college (48 units) or an A.A. Degree (or higher).
  • Ability to connect with students and motivate them positively.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and professionally with co-workers and business contacts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, especially computers.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Confers with the IEP team on a regular basis to assist in evaluating special education student progress and implementing IEP objectives.

  • Instructs special education students in subjects such as math, science, reading, and daily living skills.
  • Maintains instructional materials and student files/records.
  • Monitors special education students to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher.
  • Communicates with surrounding school districts to retrieve and provide Special Education documents.
  • Investigates and visits alternative Special Education programs for referral resources.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey job-related information.

Benefits

  • Starting pay range of $17.50 - $20.25 per hour depending on experience.
