About The Position

The position involves providing instructional, vocational, and developmental assistance to students with various disabilities, including mental, physical, and emotional challenges. The Para Professional will work under the supervision of a teacher to support the individual needs of each student, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance to thrive in their educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional, vocational and developmental assistance to special needs students as prescribed by the supervising teacher.
  • Assists students with gross motor activities such as grasping, holding objects, posture, crawling, walking, and running, tailored to individual development.
  • Assists students with fine motor activities including playing with toys, cutting materials, and coloring, appropriate to individual development.
  • Helps students with daily living skills such as dressing, eating, lavatory needs, grooming, and personal hygiene, as appropriate to individual development.
  • Feeds students requiring specialized assistance during meals, following doctor's orders.
  • Applies effective crisis intervention principles to manage students with aggressive behavior or social difficulties, including physical restraint when necessary.
  • Reinforces school rules and encourages appropriate behavior while helping students understand inappropriate behavior.
  • Assists in preparing lesson plans, behavior modification plans, and contributes to teacher's pre-planning sessions; helps develop learning activities and prepares instructional materials.
  • Maintains accurate records of student activities and behavior, utilizing a computer terminal for data entry and completing necessary forms and reports.
  • Assists teachers in supervising learning activities, circulating within the classroom to provide support to students.
  • May be assigned monitoring duties outside of the classroom.
  • Performs additional duties as necessary.
