About The Position

University Instructors, LLC is recruiting for immediate placement of a dynamic 1:1 special education paraprofessional to support the Clover Park School District. As a paraprofessional, you will directly impact students in special education programs. You will also partner with teachers to provide instruction, behavior management, and primary care to students.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn classroom/behavior management techniques, Special Education terminology, toileting and feeding techniques, restraint techniques, and verbal de-escalation.
  • Independently learn operations, procedures, processes, and uses of equipment.
  • Exercise sound judgment including the handling of confidential matters.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and demonstrate a knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Communicate and interact clearly, concisely, and respectfully with students, parents, guardians, volunteers, teachers, and other staff in a diverse environment.
  • Adjust to new and different working conditions.
  • Learn and implement medical intervention techniques under the direction of a knowledgeable professional.
  • Individuals may also need to meet eligibility requirements for entry onto a military base.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with hygiene, medical, and personal needs. This may include lifting, toileting, washing, and feeding with G-tubes.
  • Assist students with transport and/or accompany students in transition activities.
  • Assist with management of high-risk students who behaviors directly impact their access to education.
  • Assist with preparation for and implementation of behavior management techniques, educational and vocational instruction, and vocational placement programs.
  • Assist with IEP preparation at the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Monitor timelines for due process with re-evaluations and IEPs under the guidance of the special education teacher.
  • Instruct students individually as well as in large or small groups while being primarily responsible for student(s) as assigned by and under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Support with administration of assessment instruments.
  • Maintain class during special education teacher’s absence.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, on and off the bus, assembly, and to other building locations.
  • Collect relevant data for student IEPs and progress monitoring.
  • Support the special education teacher in maintaining students records such as month end reports, schedules, attendance records, credits earned, and progress toward meeting classes and credits required for graduation.
