About The Position

The Special Education Instructional Aide at KIPP Texas Public Schools plays a vital role in supporting students with special needs, ensuring they have the necessary skills and confidence to pursue their educational paths. This position involves working closely with both special education and general education teachers to assist students in various instructional and classroom activities, providing individualized support, and fostering a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its recognized equivalent.
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester hours) or possess an associate's (or higher) degree.
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Satisfactory outcome of a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in inclusion, life skills and/or behavioral support setting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with students in instructional and classroom activities at the direction of the special education and/or general education teacher.
  • Assist with direct academic, functional and/or specifically designed instructional or physical activities.
  • Tutor individual students and help them prepare assignments or explain material they do not understand.
  • Supervise and accompany special education students to the office, bus, classroom, cafeteria, etc.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teacher and parents regarding student's needs and progress.
  • Provide clerical support to teachers which may include, but is not limited to, creating photocopies, preparing materials, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
