Responsibilities

  • Work with individual students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Support students in the general education classroom and/or the pull-out room as needed.
  • Assist in data collection related to student performance in academic and behavioral domains.
  • Help devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual student needs.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and uphold ethical behavior standards.
  • Participate in in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Alert the regular teacher to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Serve as the chief source of information for substitute teachers in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Reinforce student education plans (504, IEP, etc.) when necessary.
  • Assist staff and students in using educational computer programs.
  • Organize learning environments and prepare instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene functions and behavior functions as per their specific plan.
  • Act as a mandated reporter to ensure student safety.
  • Monitor students' daily schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Attend problem-solving/IEP meetings and provide input on student progress.
