About The Position

The Special Education Paraprofessional 1:1 (Structured/Functional) position is designed to work primarily with one student with special needs, under the direction of the Instructional/PPS staff, to ensure the student can fully benefit from the instructional program. This role involves assisting in the delivery of special education services consistent with the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and supporting the student in various educational and daily living tasks.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator's, Paraprofessional, or Substitute License registered in Lake County.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 60 credit hours of college credit.

Responsibilities

  • Work primarily with an individual student in the delivery of special education services consistent with the IEP.
  • Assist the Instructional/PPS staff in devising special strategies for introducing or reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of the individual student.
  • Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Help the student with the completion of instructional assignments after they have been introduced by the Instructional/PPS staff.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the Instructional/PPS staff.
  • Assist with the supervision of the student during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Check the student's notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
  • Check and record student attendance as necessary and assist with data collection.
  • Help the student(s) with daily living skills, clothing, lunch, snack, clean-up routines, wash-up, and toileting routines.
  • Alert appropriate staff to any problem or special information about the student.
  • Provide information and help any substitute teacher(s) assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students and exhibit ethical behavior.
  • Participate in inservice training programs as assigned.
  • May be reassigned for duty based on student or school need.
  • Inform supervisor of the absence of assigned student for possible reassignment of duties.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Instructional/PPS staff or administration.

Benefits

  • Minimum salary of $18.78 per hour.
  • Work week: Monday through Friday.
  • Work year: 176 days.
  • Work hours: 7:15 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
