About The Position

The Special Education Math Teacher for grades 6-7 is responsible for creating a flexible program and an environment conducive to learning and personal growth. The teacher will encourage students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for a solid foundation for continuous growth and development. This role involves providing students with experiences that integrate the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor dimensions of learning, establishing effective rapport with students and their parents, and assisting students in developing positive feelings toward themselves and others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Current New Mexico teaching certificate endorsed in the area(s) to be taught.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate in the development and implementation of the district program of instruction.
  • Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and complies with State Department of Education Standards and IEP plans.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, assignments, units, and projects.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior and discipline as prescribed in the school handbook and IEP plans.
  • Evaluate the learning progress of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Prescribe effective learning programs and initiate referrals to appropriate personnel when concerns arise.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning academic, social, and behavioral progress.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Select and request appropriate books and instructional materials and maintain required inventory records.
  • Provide directions and materials for substitute teachers and supervise classroom aides, guests, and volunteers.
  • Cooperate with staff and support personnel in assessing and helping students with health, attitude, learning, and behavioral problems.
  • Participate in all IEP meetings and ensure educational goals of the IEP are met in the classroom.
