About The Position

The position of a Special Education Life Skills Teacher will be available at East Central ISD for the 2025-2026 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., August 01, 2025, or until the position is filled. The role involves providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society and assist building principals to ensure the execution of the district's educational programs, policies, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate Special Education EC-12 and Generalist or Core Subject EC-6

Nice To Haves

  • Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate for Physical Education Teachers

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD committee process for each student assigned.
  • Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curriculum as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, feeding, and toileting of students as stated in IEP.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
