About The Position

Perform responsible human support for high school aged students with disabilities. This support includes helping students to learn the basic job, communication and social skills necessary to be successful in a community workplace.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in working with a high school aged special education population
  • Ability to maintain files and information
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with teachers, students, and the paid employees at the job site.
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Frequent sitting, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching.
  • Occasional standing crawling, and physical management that includes supporting individuals with impaired weight bearing or unsteady gaits, repositioning individuals in therapeutic equipment: including use of hydraulic lifts to a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules.
  • Coaches need to be prepared to be on their feet for up to 3 hours and be able to demonstrate the tasks they are teaching the students.

  • Some experience working with students with disabilities, preferred.
  • A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Be the sole supervisor on the job site to ensure student safety and their progression towards specific goals related to work, communication and social skills.
  • Follow the directions of the work experience teacher in performing specific duties as assigned to achieve and enhance student goals.
  • Be at the jobsite before the students arrive, greet the students as they get off the bus, remain on the jobsite during work experience and ensure students board their bus at the end of the shift.
  • Communicate concerns to the work experience teacher in timely manner.
  • Maintain various records, files and emergency contact information.
  • Ensure that students follow both school rules and rules specific to the job the job site.
  • Provide verbal feedback to the students daily.
  • Support and implement behavior modification as directed by teacher.
  • Report student concerns directly and expeditiously to teacher and assist with student resolution.
  • Maintain various records including the collection of student data.
  • Perform related work as required.
