About The Position

The position involves providing specialized learning activities and experiences for students with special needs, aimed at fostering their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The role includes developing or modifying curricula and preparing instructional materials tailored to the individual abilities of students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for special education.
  • Valid certificate for content instruction in a special education classroom or demonstrate competency through state evaluation standards.
  • Valid ESL certification.
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in the assigned area.
  • Understanding of the ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting and implementation.
  • Familiarity with curriculum and instruction for assigned areas.
  • Training in crisis prevention and behavior intervention strategies.
  • Training in positive behavioral support strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to create effective programs for all students.
  • Plan and implement appropriate instructional strategies and materials that cater to the learning styles and needs of students.
  • Work with general education teachers to modify curricula as per IEP recommendations.
  • Prepare and implement goals and objectives from the student's ARD/IEP meetings.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning and use results to inform instructional planning and evaluate progress.
  • Incorporate technology into the teaching process to enhance student learning.
  • Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, or feeding of students as outlined in their IEP.
  • Manage student behavior using positive behavioral support techniques.
  • Utilize crisis intervention strategies and physical restraint as necessary, following IEP guidelines.
  • Provide interventions as recommended by the Response to Intervention (RtI) team for general education students.
  • Assist in the implementation of the RtI model, including training general education teachers in special education techniques and maintaining data collection on student progress.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment that supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians.
  • Foster professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately.
  • Participate in staff development activities to enhance job-related skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
