About The Position

The Special Education Instructional Coach (IC) at Christina School District plays a pivotal role in enhancing instructional practices across the district. This position is designed for an experienced educator who will work closely with administration to ensure effective instruction in classrooms, particularly for students with special needs. The IC is responsible for driving a culture of instructional excellence through comprehensive teacher support and training. This includes coaching, teaching, and supporting various coaching initiatives, as well as designing and presenting professional development programs. The IC collaborates closely with the Principal to maximize teacher performance, with the ultimate goal of improving student achievement. The IC will utilize best practices for coaching, modeling, and observing teachers in a formative manner, providing constructive feedback through reflective dialogue. Analyzing school-level, grade-level, and classroom data is essential to identify strengths and weaknesses, allowing the IC to plan targeted support to enhance teacher quality and effectiveness. Collaboration with building administrators is crucial to establish coaching priorities and support district professional development initiatives. The IC will also work with teachers in their Professional Learning Communities to review data and reflect on instructional practices as they relate to students with disabilities. In addition to these responsibilities, the IC will facilitate small group learning sessions focused on new content, pedagogy, and instructional strategies. The role includes serving on various task forces and committees, assisting in planning and implementing professional development at both the building and district levels, and maintaining accurate records of training activities and coaching sessions. The IC is expected to demonstrate model lessons and lead or facilitate lesson studies and book studies, while also being available for evening and summer hours as needed. Overall, the IC's success is measured by the ability of teachers to drive high-level student achievement, particularly for those with special needs.
