About The Position

Garfield Park Academy is seeking a motivated full-time (10-month position) Special Education High School Teacher to join a small, departmental classroom. Teachers are valued members of special education teams, which include teachers, aides, social workers, and therapists. These teams implement the evidence-based Teaching Family Model to support students with behavioral challenges and learning issues in achieving meaningful social and academic learning and healthy decision-making. Instructional staff receive thorough training and mentorship in the Teaching Family Model.

Requirements

New Jersey Teacher Certification in English, Math, Science, and/or History
Bachelor's degree
Teaching Certification

Nice To Haves

New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification
One year of teaching experience
At least one year of Special Education teaching

Responsibilities

Providing individualized teaching strategies in accordance with each student's IEP and individual goals and objectives
Implementing modifications and accommodations in the classroom and in testing/assessment situations
Collecting and interpreting data to teach responsively
Administering periodic assessments to determine present levels of performance
Participating in school staff meetings and parent meetings
Clearly and consistently communicating and collaborating with educational team members, school leaders and parents/guardians
