About The Position

The Special Education Facilitator/Coach position is designed to support effective teaching and leadership in elementary education for students with disabilities. This role involves close collaboration with administrator teams to enhance instructional delivery through coaching, professional development, and meaningful observation. A focus on improving instructional practices within self-contained environments is essential. The facilitator will also coordinate and chair Planning and Placement Team meetings.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut teaching certificate in Special Education.
  • Special Education Certification (165).
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience with diverse learners.
  • Ability to mentor new teachers.
  • Experience in programmatic development and improvements.
  • Ability to work toward interdisciplinary instruction with other departments.
  • Proven leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers and leaders in improving instructional practices for students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrate scholarship in subject content and provide leadership in expanding knowledge among staff.
  • Initiate changes for student learning improvement based on data analysis and best practices.
  • Act as a role model demonstrating professionalism and respect.
  • Develop and run professional development and department meetings.
  • Chair Planning and Placement Team meetings to build individualized programs for students.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices for instructional and assessment strategies.
  • Model and mentor best practices including technology integration and project-based instruction.
  • Facilitate programmatic improvement and high-quality instruction delivery.
  • Mentor non-tenured teachers and provide coaching support to special education teachers.
  • Conduct formative observations and assist in developing instructional improvement plans.
  • Support Data Teams in creating common assessments and collaborative lesson planning.
  • Create and deliver professional development.
  • Participate in recruitment and interviewing of faculty members.
  • Monitor inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as a communication link between administration and department members.
  • Maintain communication with parents and community representatives.

Benefits

  • Base stipend of $7,500 in addition to teaching salary as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
