About The Position

The Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Coordinator is a master teacher certified in special education. The Coordinator demonstrates expert knowledge in the areas of state and federal compliance requirements of special education( IDEA) and ADA Section 504. The ESS Coordinator is an instructional role focused on the provision of high quality instruction and supports to students with disabilities across multiple school sites. The ESS Coordinator supports and manages all aspects of SPED and Section 504 program compliance at the assigned schools. The ESS Coordinator provides instructional and compliance support and oversight by designing and/or supervising specially designed instruction and maintaining SPED and 504 program compliance. The ESS Coordinator is highly knowledgeable of the needs of students with disabilities and ensures that specially designed instruction is aligned with IEPs or Section 504 Plans, is data-driven, and is provided with fidelity. The highly effective ESS Coordinator works collaboratively with the campus Special Education Teacher and Curriculum Coach to ensure quality and consistency in the instruction of students with disabilities. The ESS Coordinator has a deep understanding of instructional strategies for students with disabilities and differentiated instruction and provides teachers guidance and training to improve academic outcomes for students with disabilities. The ESS Coordinator collaborates with special education teachers and administrators at each assigned site to develop instructional schedules. The ESS Coordinator supports school administration teams in understanding and implementing state and federal requirements for special education and ADA Section 504 by participating in the development of the school's SPED and 504 program, providing instructional expertise, and ensuring all compliance requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Current Arizona Special Education Certification
  • Current DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Expert knowledge of state and federal compliance requirements for special education under IDEA
  • Expert knowledge of ADA Section 504 and federal compliance requirements
  • 5 or more years of special education teaching experience in a variety of school settings
  • 5 or more years of experience developing and planning specially designed instruction based on student IEPs
  • 5 or more years of experience with case management and coordination of services
  • The ability to develop MET reports and IEPs that meet state and federal compliance requirements
  • The ability to conduct evaluations under ADA Section 504 and develop 504 Accommodation Plans in compliance with federal regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procedural requirements and parent/student rights under IDEA and ADA Section 504
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in special education and the impact of disabilities on student learning
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of specially designed instruction, differentiated instruction, and inclusion support
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of data analysis and using data to drive instruction
  • A high level of organization and the ability to perform multiple tasks.

Responsibilities
