About The Position

The position involves conducting and reviewing interventions for students identified through the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). The role includes performing diagnostic assessments for students enrolled in district area schools, including private schools and preschoolers. The individual will also handle case management duties for pre-referral interventions, initial evaluations, reevaluations, and annual review meetings. As a team leader for special education personnel, the individual will facilitate meetings, set agendas, and monitor inventory. The use of technology for assessment, communication, and documentation is essential. The position requires acting as a liaison between administrators and teachers regarding students with special needs, engaging in reflective practices, and participating in professional development to stay updated on best practices, technology, and assessment. The individual will also participate in building-level programs such as PBIS, Data Review Meetings, and Decision Making Meetings, while keeping accurate records for support services and reviewing new student files to identify special education needs. Observations of students, coordination of IEP meetings, and ongoing communication with parents and outside agencies are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Professional Educator License with one or more of the following endorsements: LBS I, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, and/or Speech Pathologist.
  • Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience preferred.
  • EL Certification Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a team leader for special education personnel, facilitating meetings, setting agenda, and monitoring inventory.
  • Uses technology for assessment, communication and documentation.
  • Acts as liaison between administrators and teachers to communicate in regards to students with special needs.
  • Engages in reflective practices to identify successes and challenges; participates in professional development, research, reading and inquiry sessions to stay abreast of developments in best classroom practices, technology, and assessment.
  • Participates in building level programs such as PBIS, Data Review Meetings, Decision Making Meetings, MTSS, etc.
  • Keeps accurate records for support services to communicate to district office.
  • Reviews new student files to identify special education needs.
  • Performs student observations.
  • Acts as special education coordinator/LEA for individual eligibility education, 504 plan, and service plan meetings.
  • Assists with designing, monitoring and coordinating district procedures to assure procedures are compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates and participates in IEP meetings and annual reviews and facilitates the compilation of documentation for student records.
  • Provides on-going communication with parents, building staff, and outside agencies.
  • Performs other duties and assumes responsibilities as assigned in accordance with terms stipulated in the current contract.
