Requirements

• Candidate must be at least 18 years of age
• Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Certificate (GED)
• Candidate must attend an orientation/training session
• Experience teaching or working with school age children
• Teaching capabilities in all subject areas
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• The ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
• The ability to follow oral and written directions
• The ability to address the various learning styles of students
• The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on student's prior knowledge and experience
• The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs
• The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students
• The ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgments
• The ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior
• The ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies
• The ability to use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely

Responsibilities

• Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information
• Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies
• Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Report to office upon arrival and departure at school
• Review lesson plans, materials, and/or instructions left by absent teacher
• Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or discipline problems to the school principal immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
• Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate
• Organize students for effective instruction
• Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building
• Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies
• Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities
• Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices
