This Special Education Assistant position supports our middle school's social/emotional program by assisting students who need targeted emotional, behavioral, and academic support throughout the day. The assistant works closely with the lead special education teacher, adjustment counselor, school psychologist, and related service providers to maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment. Responsibilities include assisting students in regulating emotions and navigating challenging moments, providing academic scaffolding in classrooms and small groups, and supporting data collection. A successful candidate is patient, calm under pressure, and able to build strong, trusting relationships with adolescents. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, flexibility, and a solution-focused mindset are essential, and experience with de-escalation, restorative practices, or social-emotional learning is a plus.
