About The Position

Educational Assistant - Special Education Life Skills – Loma Vista Elementary School Hermiston School District The Hermiston School District is seeking applicants for the Special Education Assistant position in the Life Skills classroom at Loma Vista Elementary School. The selected candidate will work closely with the Special Education teacher to support students with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. About Our Elementary Schools: Hermiston School District has six comprehensive K-5 elementary schools with student populations ranging from 460-600. Each campus is supported by a Principal, Dean of Students, School Counselor, Instructional Coach, and various classified staff, all working to ensure a premier educational experience for our students. About the District: Hermiston School District is the largest in Eastern Oregon, serving over 5,300 students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The district focuses on meeting the diverse needs of students through engaging and rigorous programs, mutual respect, and high expectations. In recent years, the district has seen significant community support through voter-approved bonds, including the construction of Loma Vista Elementary and other improvements. The district employs over 630 staff members, including approximately 390 teachers and 260 classified personnel. Hermiston is a diverse and welcoming community, with about half of the population identifying as Hispanic. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet NCLB educational requirements by holding an Associate's Degree or 72 college credit hours.
  • The Work Keys or ParaPro Assessment test can be taken as an alternative and is administered by the District upon hire.
  • Demonstrated standards of moral character and behavior, similar to those expected of teachers (e.g., serving as an effective role model).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
