This position involves helping to meet the physical and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities both inside and outside the classroom. The aide will assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), focusing on self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. The role operates under the general supervision of a principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher, requiring adherence to federal and state laws, as well as district policies. Key responsibilities include supervising students in various school settings, assisting teachers with instructional material preparation and behavioral interventions, and participating in staff development. The aide will work with individual students, small groups, and whole classes, specifically assisting students with severe developmental and communication delays, lack of social interaction, and behavioral concerns to implement modifications and achieve instructional goals. This includes reinforcing skills, managing student behavior, intervening in crisis situations, and assisting with testing instruments and technology integration. The role also requires incorporating social and emotional learning, behavioral strategies, and social skills development daily. Administrative tasks such as filing, copying, inventory, equipment maintenance, and billing for Student Health and Related Services (SHARS) are also part of the job. The aide will assist students and teachers with augmentative communication and adaptive/assistive devices, and provide physical assistance to students, including transferring, lifting, positioning, and personal care. Additionally, the aide will orient substitutes, meet with staff to evaluate student progress, and participate in virtual classroom environments and professional development activities.
