About The Position

Special Education 1:1 Paraeducator DD/Behvr Developmentally Delayed (DD)/Behavior LOCATION: Hollingsworth Academy REPORTS TO: Principal/Program Psychologist DEPARTMENT: Special Services Hours / Work Times 6.5 Hours Per Day (7:40 a.m. - 2:40 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch) Regular Days and Designated Full Wednesdays 4.5 Hours Per Day (7:40 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.) Wednesdays and Middle School Early-Release Days 190 days per year (180 student days/10 holidays) This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 11/18/2025. Up to 4 positions available Must meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements as follows: Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; AND Must meet one or more of the following: Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS); or Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university; or Have completed a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council). SUMMARY STATEMENT: Under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher and the Principal, the Special Education Paraeducator will assist in the supervision of student behavior and instructional activities, working closely with students on an individual, as well as small group basis. Washington State Core Competencies should be completed within three years of hire.

Requirements

• Must meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements as follows:
• Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; AND
• Must meet one or more of the following:
• Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS); or
• Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or

• Basic typing/keyboarding.
• Previous experience working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
• Experience working with a team to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Knowledge and/or experience of child and adolescent mental health issues.
• Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness.
• Must possess physical strength and ability to deal with aggressive behavior of students.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Special Education classroom teacher in supervising and working with elementary and/or secondary students as follows:
• Monitor students at all times.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
• De-escalation of students in crisis.
• Assist in providing one-to-one and group instruction to students so as to meet his/her individualized education program (IEP).
• Assist in evaluating and specifying direction of instruction so as to maximize each student’s potential.
• Maintain accurate data related to school behavior and academics.
• Assist in administering and scoring formal and informal tests.
• Implement behavioral management strategies using the emphasis and techniques that have been outlined by the teacher.
• Assist in organizing and preparing a variety of instructional materials.
• Maintain orderliness in the classroom and other student areas.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Provide physical, therapeutic interventions, including restraint of students, when needed, using CPI approved techniques.
• Remain calm and emotionally available in volatile situations.
• Participate as an effective team member.
• Diaper students as necessary.
• Feed students as necessary.
• Handle bodily fluids as necessary.
• Lift and/or position students as necessary.
• Attend various training sessions as necessary so as to maintain an up-to-date understanding of the special education student.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
