About The Position

Provide and supervise comprehensive educational services and intervention to preschool children in an inclusive, small, non-public special education setting. Adapt lesson plans, provide direct instruction, and collaboratively manage classroom activities with early childhood teacher while supervising support staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Special Education or Education and NYS teaching certification preferred. Bachelor's degree and initial certification may be considered. Selected candidates may qualify for tuition assistance.
  • NYS Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2) credential preferred. Approved path of study leading to credential may be considered Selected candidates may qualify for tuition assistance.
  • Teaching or early childhood program experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of autism and other developmental disabilities.
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt lesson plans generated by Early Childhood Teacher to accommodate students with special needs.
  • Schedule and deliver individual and group classroom lessons to meet the needs of students.
  • Manage classroom environment and components therein of special class, integrated setting and/or special class designated programs for children with and without disabilities.
  • Train support staff in data collection and monitoring techniques to exemplify empirical documentation of progress toward IEP objectives
  • Write quarterly and summer progress notes for submission to CPSE, family, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop Individualized Education Plan (IEP) with support team and CPSE
  • Supervise and support classroom staff.
  • Communicate progress to families.
  • Communicate in an ongoing, positive, and productive fashion with all members of students' team, to facilitate child learning across environments, carry out therapist prescribed interventions, etc.
  • Establish and maintain communication with school district CPSE chairpersons. Make recommendations regarding educational programming of child.
  • Develop and implement behavior management techniques, interventions, and plans as needed.
  • Participate in introductory and ongoing learning opportunities and professional development activities.
  • Attend agency, faculty and student meetings.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with applicable regulatory procedures including NYSED, NYS OCFS and Springbrook
  • Coordinate staffing of daycare program hours with supervisory support.
