About The Position

This position is a 1.0 FTE located at Williamsburg Middle School for School Year 2027. The role involves teaching American Sign Language as a foreign language. The successful candidate will be expected to work effectively as a team member with colleagues. Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure
  • Hold a current, valid qualified or professional certification by the American Sign Language Teachers Association; or
  • Hold a current, valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level III Interpreting Certification or higher issued by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing; or
  • Hold a current, valid Registry of Interpreters for Deaf certification at least one of the following: Certification of Interpretation (CI), Certification of Deaf Interpretation (CDI), Reverse Skills Certification (RSC), or Comprehensive Skills Certification (CSC); or
  • Hold a current, valid National Association for the Deaf Level IV Certification or higher, and
  • Earned a minimum of three semester hours of methods of teaching foreign languages at the elementary and secondary levels from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience teaching high school students
  • Experience teaching American Sign Language to students
  • Understanding of methodology of teaching foreign language at the secondary level
  • Experience developing and implementing ASL curriculum

Nice To Haves

  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area
