About The Position

The Special Ed Instructional Aide at Raguet Elementary is responsible for assisting the special education teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. This role involves supporting classroom programs, managing student behavior, and ensuring a conducive learning environment under the supervision of the principal and certified teacher.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Highly Qualified Aide Status
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrates knowledge of reading, writing, and math
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Some experience working with children

Responsibilities

  • Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Ensure specific materials and supplies are ready for classroom use.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transfers to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
  • Help manage the behavior of students, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive behavior as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, including during bus loading, on the playground, in the cafeteria, and hallways; discipline students as necessary.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Clean classrooms or eating areas.
  • Provide first aid as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by teacher/principal.
