The Special Education Life Skills Aide plays a crucial role in supporting special education teachers in addressing the instructional needs of students with disabilities within Life Skills Classrooms. This position involves assisting with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), which encompass self-help skills, behavior management, and instructional programs tailored to each student's unique requirements. The aide will work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to thrive in their educational environment. In this role, the aide will be responsible for directing individual students or small groups in completing instructional assignments, reinforcing previously taught academic or developmental skills, and supervising students throughout the school day, including during lunch and on the playground. The aide will assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom order, and gathering data to help monitor student progress. Additionally, the aide will implement positive behavior supports and intervene in crisis situations as needed, utilizing specialized training in accordance with state and local policies. The aide will also be responsible for addressing the personal care needs of students, which may include feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene. This position requires a commitment to confidentiality and compliance with federal, state, and local policies, as well as a dedication to fostering a positive and professional learning environment. Participation in staff development programs and crisis intervention training is also expected, ensuring that the aide is well-equipped to handle the challenges of working with students with disabilities.
