About The Position

Building: Various Buildings Position: Special Education / Building Para Floater Qualifications: See Posting Hours/Times/Calendar: Hours / Times Will Vary - 6.67-6.75 hrs/day/ 191 Day Calendar Effective: Immediately Allocation: 1.122.xx.2421.1630 QUALIFICATIONS High school graduate or equivalent (GED) Associate’s Degree or 60 semester hours at an institution of higher education, or Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through passage of a formal state or local academic assessment approved by the State Board of Education. A passing score of at least 480 on the evidence-based reading and writing section of the SAT and 530 on the mathematics section in lieu of the Basic Skills Test or Professional Readiness Exam ETS Parapro Assessment – A passing score of 460 is required Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) trained or willing to be trained Must be able to bend, twist, stoop, squat and lift up to 50 pounds in assisting students if needed Title I or Skipped Title I schools require #1,2,3,4 or 5 above

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental characteristics of Special Education Students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate appropriately with the students, parents and staff.
  • Must be willing to provide assistance and instruction in the area of personal hygiene, toileting, health and fitness, and community living.
  • Participate in field trips as needed.
  • Promote positive self-esteem and encourage academic growth in students.
  • Demonstrate good judgment to provide for the safety of all students and staff.
  • Demonstrate the flexibility to respond to changes in assignment in emergency situations as determined by the building principal.
  • Maintain confidentiality in regards to student information as required by FERPA.
  • Assist in carrying out educational plans as prescribed by student’s individual plans
  • Demonstrate the physical strength and stamina to meet the needs of all students.
  • Develop and sustain appropriate communication and rapport with students, parent and staff.
  • Perform other related duties or tasks necessary to insure the success of students and the program.
  • Conducts him/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and project a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups.
  • Must have transportation and be willing to change assignments and locations as needed.
