The Insurance Section of the Department of Justice litigates cases on behalf of several state agencies. The primary purpose of the Section is to represent the Commissioner of Insurance, the Department of Insurance, and Department of Insurance-affiliated boards and commissions such as the N.C. Building Code Council, the N.C. Code Officials Qualifications Board, the N.C. Manufactured Housing Board, the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensure Board, and the N.C. Fire and Rescue Commission. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and independent litigator who wishes to gain some supervisory experience. The majority of the duties involve autonomously representing the Department of Insurance in complex, protracted litigation, including insurance company insolvency proceedings. Additionally, the position provides legal advice to the Department of Insurance and to an assortment of boards and commissions associated with the Department of Insurance. The position will also supervise one Attorney III position which represents the State Auditor and the Secretary of State.
