About The Position

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking a dedicated and civic-minded individual to join our team of sworn Peace Officers as a Special Conservator of the Peace. This role is crucial to the overall safety and security of the museum, its employees, and its patrons. The Special Conservators of the Peace are responsible for ensuring a safe environment during various art-related events and exhibitions. This position requires adherence to proper safety and security procedures, as the Security Operations are open 24/7, 365 days a year. Therefore, flexibility in working hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, is essential. After completing the required training, officers will primarily work night shifts. As a Special Conservator of the Peace, you will patrol the museum property and grounds, enforce rules and regulations, assist visitors and employees, report potential hazards and suspicious activities, and respond to emergency situations. Officers will also assist with investigations, secure evidence, and complete logs and other records. This position involves carrying weapons and exercising general police powers as appropriate, making it vital for candidates to have a strong understanding of applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
