Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is seeking a collaborative and community-oriented Special Collections Librarian who will play a vital role in acquiring, preserving, and promoting archival materials that support the university's teaching, learning, and research objectives, as well as representing the Southwest Florida community. This position requires a dynamic individual with a passion for special collections and a commitment to enhancing the visibility and impact of these resources within the FGCU community and beyond. The successful candidate will report to the chair of Academic and Community Engagement and will be instrumental in building special collections, collaborating with colleagues to shape the Archives' online presence, and marketing collections and services to both the FGCU community and the public. The Special Collections Librarian will be responsible for appraising potential additions to the collection, making recommendations for acquisitions, and overseeing the de-accessioning of existing collections. They will facilitate user access by providing reference services, describing archival materials, and managing the digitization of special collections materials. Additionally, the librarian will promote collections through various means, including exhibits, publications, presentations, and instructional sessions. Cultivating partnerships with campus and external organizations, such as other libraries, historical societies, museums, and archives, will be essential to enhance the visibility and impact of special collections. Engagement in professional activities is expected, including maintaining professional knowledge and skills through continued education, research, scholarship, and service. The librarian will also engage in continuous improvement activities, including assessment, analysis, and planning of the department's resources and services to ensure they adequately achieve the archives' mission. Collaborating with faculty to integrate archival materials into the curriculum and providing instructional sessions that enhance students' educational experiences will be a key responsibility. The Special Collections Librarian will also hire and manage student staff to process collections and assist in exhibitions, while performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
