The Special Agent role at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) involves conducting investigations and operations to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution. Special Agents must be prepared for a demanding work schedule, including irregular hours and on-call duties, while also being available for assignments worldwide.

  • Conduct surveillance and identify leads.
  • Interview suspects and advise on national security matters.
  • Adhere to strict standards of conduct and undergo background investigations.
  • Pass a Physical Fitness Test and maintain fitness throughout the career.
  • Complete approximately 18 weeks of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.
  • Be available for transfer to one of the FBI's 56 Field Offices after graduation.
  • Work a minimum of a 50-hour workweek, including irregular hours and on-call duties.
  • Participate in arrests, execute search warrants, and conduct raids.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be at least 23 years old and not have reached 37 years old at appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret SCI Clearance.
  • Must have two years of full-time professional work experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with at least six months of driving experience.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree or higher from a U.S.-accredited college or university.
