As a Special Agent with a linguist background at the FBI, you will leverage your language skills and cultural knowledge to support critical investigations. This role involves interviewing victims, translating during suspect interrogations, and providing testimony in court. The FBI seeks candidates with proficiency in languages such as Arabic, Bosnian, Chinese, Farsi, Russian, Somali, Uzbek, Korean, or other languages, as these skills are essential for the Bureau's operations. You will undergo extensive training and have the opportunity to work on complex cases that present unique challenges not found in the private sector. The position requires adherence to strict conduct standards and the completion of a rigorous background investigation, including credit checks and a polygraph examination to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance. Physical fitness is crucial, as you must meet the physical requirements to complete training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, and maintain fitness throughout your career. Upon successful completion of approximately 18 weeks of training, you will be assigned to one of the FBI's 56 Field Offices, with the understanding that relocation may be necessary. The role demands flexibility, as you will be available for temporary duty assignments globally and work a minimum of a 50-hour workweek, including being on-call 24/7, which may involve working on weekends and holidays. Participation in arrests, executing search warrants, and other law enforcement activities will also be part of your responsibilities. The selection process for this position is highly competitive, typically taking over a year to complete, and includes the Special Agent Selection System (SASS), which tests both mental and physical capabilities.
