The Sterile Processing Technician is assigned duties performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation and equipment for the organization. The Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in infection prevention using the guidelines set forth by AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), AORN (Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurse), CDC (Centers for Disease Control), SGNA (Society of Gastroenterology Nurse and Associates), and hospital policies for the health and safety for our patients and providers. The technician must possess a strong work ethic. The technician must be organized, have the ability to work well in a team and independently. The technician must have excellent communication skill, perform tasks quickly and have a strong attention to detail. The technician will have extensive people contact and interruptions. The technician must have good problem-solving skills to meet pressure from high volume census to meet deadlines for our patients. While performing this job the employee is required to constantly stand and/or walk. The technician must be able to consistently support, push and/or lift up to 25 pounds. Physical working environment may include but not limited to any of the following: high pressure steam, mechanical, chemical, electrical, bio-waste and bodily fluids. Environmental conditions may include noise, odors, variations in temperatures. The technician could be assigned at the main Sterile Processing Department and/or Ambulatory Surgery ENDO unit to support the volume of cases for our patients.
