Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Leadership Team, an SPD Tech II will perform decontamination, inspection/assembly, high level disinfection (HLD)/sterilization, storage and distribution of instruments, devices and medical equipment throughout the UMass Network, along with other associated tasks, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process while maintaining a clean, safe and organized workspace. 6:45a-3:15p rotating weekends and holidays

Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience in Sterile Processing as a Certified and Registered Central Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Current Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician certification.
  • Current Certified Instrument Specialist advanced certification.
  • Knowledge of sterilization standards /procedures and Central Service-related terminology.
  • Proficiency with basic computer functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year in Sterile Processing as a Certified and Registered Central Sterile Processing Technician with UMass CSPD.

Responsibilities

  • Performs in the capacity of charge tech to entry level staff. Precepts to ensure quality of work is within department standards.
  • Internal inventory responsibilities including supplies, back up stock, and the expiration process driving reduction of defect resolution issues.
  • Backlog oversight. When backlog exists, assists in coordination of reduction of backlog through prioritization, distribution, and completion of trays.
  • Decontamination a) Collects, receives and records soiled instruments/equipment/devices for decontamination process and associated tasks as outlined by established policy/process, guided by industry regulations/recommendations and manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU). b) Utilizes equipment, tools, solutions and personal protective equipment in a prescribed manner while following universal safety precautions. c) Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
  • Inspection/Assembly a) Inspects for cleanliness and proper functioning, assembles, packages and records instruments/devices and equipment following the established procedure for each. b) Maintains clean, safe and organized workspace and other associated tasks.
