About The Position

As a member of the Site Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team, work collaboratively to ensure that compliant EHS programs are developed and implemented within operating departments at the Durham site. Integrate EHS programs into daily operations to assure regulatory compliance, achieve continuous performance improvement, and meet EHS performance objectives. Partners with key stakeholders in manufacturing, laboratory and facility support to develop priorities to achieve these goals in alignment with site business priorities. Performs responsibilities and addresses challenges.

Requirements

  • BS with preference for Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety, or Industrial Hygiene, relevant MS degree a bonus.
  • Minimum 3 years applied professional experience in industrial safety, environmental and/or general EHS role.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and can-do attitude with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Possess critical thinking, analytical and logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize, focus on and obtain business results.
  • Flexibility to perform various tasks to support the business.
  • Service and result-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to handle potentially stressful situations with a positive attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in high risk work program management, contractor management, production operations.
  • Experience with EHS regulatory agency inspections.
  • Strong systems and IT knowledge including Microsoft applications a plus.
  • Demonstrated performance in a highly regulated industry with strict standards adherence and compliance initiatives.
  • Relevant professional certification(s) preferred including ASP/CSP and/or CIH.

Responsibilities

  • Manages EHS information and compliance using site’s EHS management systems including data collection, modeling, trending, tracking and communication of EHS score card metrics.
  • Supports the completion of regulatory submissions, notifications, etc. required to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local EHS requirements.
  • Participates in EHS agency regulatory inspections and correspondence.
  • Provides EHS support for management of change, incident investigation, risk assessments, EHS standards compliance, inspections and auditing and capital project work as assigned.
  • Partners with stakeholders to administer EHS management system and maintain compliance.
  • With knowledge of EHS regulations and applicability, develops EHS procedures, guidelines and training programs as assigned.
  • Provides guidance to formation of and participates in sustained performance of action oriented EHS committees.
  • Supports implementation of EHS compliance initiatives for operating areas.
  • Serve as the Durham site subject matter expert (SME) for high risk work (HRW) programs: elevated work, confined space entry, lockout-tagout, line breaking, hot work, etc.
  • Work with area management for HRW program review and review of permit to work process.
  • Provide training and site orientation for our company employees and contractors as it relates to HRW and other EHS topics.
