About The Position

The Spanish Teacher will provide instruction in the Spanish language, including grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, to high school students. This role focuses on developing students' proficiency in Spanish, enhancing their cultural awareness, and fostering an appreciation for the Spanish-speaking world. The teacher will create a dynamic and immersive learning environment that encourages communication, critical thinking, and cultural exploration. Additionally, the Spanish Teacher will promote the value of multilingualism in today's global society and help students understand the importance of language as a tool for connecting with diverse communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification for high school Spanish (or appropriate state certification).
  • Strong proficiency in both written and spoken Spanish, with the ability to teach all levels of language acquisition.
  • In-depth knowledge of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and language instruction methodologies.
  • Experience teaching high school students, with a focus on language acquisition and cultural education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons that cover Spanish language skills (grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, writing) and Hispanic culture, history, and traditions.
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and immersive classroom environment that encourages active participation, communication, and respect for diverse cultural perspectives.
  • Design assessments (quizzes, tests, oral presentations, projects) to evaluate student proficiency in Spanish and provide timely, constructive feedback to support language development.
  • Promote exploration of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries through activities such as film screenings, music, literature, and cultural projects to help students understand the role of language in a global context.
  • Provide additional support to students who need help with language acquisition, offering differentiated instruction and tutoring to meet individual learning needs.
  • Work with other language teachers and school staff to develop interdisciplinary projects and promote school-wide initiatives, including language clubs and cultural exchange programs.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in language teaching methodologies, state standards, and global trends in the Spanish-speaking world to ensure lessons are relevant and engaging.
