The Spanish teacher is responsible for delivering the curriculum at various levels through an immersion-type classroom environment as well as for assessing student learning. The teacher is also expected to maintain open communication with parents, counselors and deans, contribute to the mission and work of the World Language Department, attend meetings for students and teachers, attend to administrative duties, and fulfill other responsibilities and duties as a member of the broader school community. Full time Spanish teachers at Newton North teach four classes at a variety of levels, and at this time we are seeking applicants with diverse experiences and/or a willingness to diversify their experience.

  • Design and implement curriculum and instruction that supports the school and district-wide goals of culturally responsive instruction and universally designed learning.
  • Prepare and deliver instructional lessons with clear and measurable outcomes
  • Deliver instruction primarily in the target language
  • Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds
  • Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students
  • Implement accommodations and curricular modifications as specified in educational plans (IEPs) and as needed to meet the learning needs of students
  • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to accurately measure student progress toward proficiency targets and to inform instruction
  • Use technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom including a digital language lab
  • Consult and implement strategies from the school’s BCAP (Building Curriculum Accommodation Plan) in order to provide students with appropriate supports
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design
  • Participate actively in faculty, department and team meetings
  • Set professional development goals and plans, and participate in professional development activities that promote reflection and growth
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
  • Comply with school safety procedures
  • Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance
  • Use of the school’s online learning management system
  • Responsible for implementing other job related duties as needed
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Appropriate DESE teaching license
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
  • Ability to use technology effectively
  • Master’s Degree or significant post-graduate coursework in subject area
  • Experience teaching high school students in Spanish
