About The Position

An NJ Early Intervention Interpreter bridges language gaps for children/families enrolled in the NJ Early Intervention System (NJEIS) who are Spanish Native Language users. The Bilingual Interpreter will aid communication and comprehension between Spanish Native Language using children/families and NJEIS providers (practitioners; Service Coordinators) during NJEIS service visits with families of infants/toddlers (birth-3) with developmental delays. The Early Intervention Spanish Interpreter supports the Inspira Health Early Intervention Program and New Jersey Early Intervention System (NJEIS) by ensuring clear, accurate, and culturally responsive communication between Spanish speaking families and Early Intervention providers. This role facilitates understanding during evaluations, home visits, and therapy sessions for infants and toddlers (birth–3) with developmental delays. The Interpreter ensures families can meaningfully participate in services, make informed decisions, and fully engage with the care team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year of professional translation/interpreting services in designated language with written and oral communication proficiency preferred. Knowledge of educational and medical terminology preferred. Demonstrates fluency in formal and dialectic nuances in designated language.
  • Language Proficiency: Demonstrates fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English, including the ability to interpret accurately across dialects, literacy levels, and cultural variations.
  • Interpreting Experience: One (1) year of professional experience providing interpretation and/or translation in the designated language is preferred. Experience within healthcare, education, early childhood, developmental services (birth to age 5), or family-centered programs is strongly valued.
  • Soft Skills: Cultural sensitivity, patience, clear communication, and ability to shift between technical/informal language.
  • Technical: Ability to use web-based systems for documentation (including NJEIS platforms) and virtual meeting tools for remote service delivery when applicable.
  • Maintains a valid NJ driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: Preferred experience with early childhood, special education, and developmental delays (birth to age 5).
  • Preferred Training: Completion of a formal interpreter training program or certification in community, medical, or educational interpreting is preferred but not required.
