About The Position

The Voucher Specialist position at the Vancouver Housing Authority (VHA) is designed for an experienced administrative assistant who is detail-oriented and committed to providing exceptional customer service. This role involves assisting residents and applicants in determining eligibility for affordable housing vouchers, managing tenant files, and ensuring compliance with housing standards. The position plays a crucial part in addressing affordable housing and homelessness issues in the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required plus some higher-level education or vocational training specializing in office skills and/or housing-related subjects.
  • At least 2 years of directly related experience or equivalent required.
  • One year of customer service experience or clerical-related experience.
  • Demonstrated computer skills necessary to effectively complete duties.
  • Ability to attain Section 8 Housing Specialist Certification within 1 year of hire.
  • AA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Request and receive application and verification documents relating to moves, new admissions, and recertification.
  • Manage tenant files to ensure compliance with VHA and HUD standards.
  • Review status and send pending termination letters for non-cooperation with the certification process.
  • Process routine requests for reasonable accommodation in support of the Federal Program Policy Manager.
  • Refer non-routine requests to appropriate Voucher staff.
  • Monitor occupancy and utilization data to manage waitlist draws and notices.
  • Review and process rent increases, lease renewals, move-in RFTAs, and communicate with landlords and property managers regarding paperwork accuracy and inspections.
  • Work with property owners and finance to coordinate property owner changes.
  • Monitor Applicant and Landlord Portals on the VHA website.
  • Review incoming messages on the portal's email and assist landlords with access.
