About The Position

The Registered Nurse 3 position is a full-time role within the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services at the Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in Chattanooga, TN. This position involves providing nursing care, supervising nursing staff, and managing clinical responsibilities for one or more units. The RN 3 is expected to perform nursing assessments, implement care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes while also guiding and developing subordinate staff. The role may require working various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee or holds a privilege to practice under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Experience equivalent to three years of registered nursing or education equivalent to a diploma or bachelor's degree in nursing with two years of experience, or a graduate degree in nursing with one year of experience.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of mental health nursing practices and techniques.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the application of nursing techniques required in care and treatment of patients.
  • Advises subordinate staff in policies and procedures.
  • Observes employees to ensure efficiency in work activities.
  • Identifies exceptional performance characteristics through discussions and observations.
  • Discusses methods to improve performance and motivate employees.
  • Resolves disputes among employees following organizational policies and procedures.
  • Implements corrective measures for inappropriate actions through discussions and written warnings.
  • Provides nursing care and procedures according to physician's orders and nursing protocol.
  • Administers medication according to physician's orders and evaluates side effects and effectiveness.
  • Performs BLS and CPR, and participates in emergency response settings.
  • Prioritizes tasks based on importance and urgency.
  • Reviews records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepares written work schedules and interviews prospective employees.
  • Evaluates nursing plan of care and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Identifies training needs of employees and writes manuals of instruction.
  • Assigns staff to work plans and activities based on patient needs and staff availability.
  • Records all nursing care in patient files and maintains file systems.
