About The Position

The Nutrition Specialist II plays a crucial role in the WIC program at Driscoll Children's Hospital, providing health and nutrition counseling to clients, certifying eligibility for services, and conducting nutrition education classes. This position operates under the supervision of the Nutrition Coordinator and is responsible for maintaining compliance with health policies while promoting public health initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a health-related field with a minimum of 24 hours of nutrition education.
• Ability to apply basic level nutrition protocols and formulas needed in WIC.
• Knowledge of community health and social service resources.
• Basic computer experience and ability to work with diverse populations.
• Counseling experience and ability to interpret policies and procedures accurately.

Nice To Haves

• Prior public speaking experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Certifies clients for the WIC program and provides health and nutrition counseling.
• Conducts audits of charts and develops educational materials based on public health initiatives.
• Leads intermediate level facilitated nutrition classes and provides relief supervision in WIC clinics.
• Conducts outreach and Community Based Nutrition Education (CBNE).
• Maintains confidentiality and adheres to DSHS policies and procedures.
• Determines eligibility for applicants and performs necessary health assessments.
• Provides intermediate level counseling and refers high-risk clients to registered dietitians.
• Develops and provides group nutrition education classes using approved techniques.
• Supervises WIC operations within assigned clinics to ensure compliance with policies and standards.
• Coordinates breastfeeding activities and assists the Peer Counselor Program.
