About The Position

Ashley River Classical Academy (ARCA) is seeking a dedicated Music Teacher to join its founding faculty in Charleston, SC, starting in August 2025. This full-time position involves teaching music history, theory, and appreciation to students in grades K-5 at a tuition-free, public classical charter school. The role emphasizes the development of students' moral character and appreciation for beauty through a classical, content-rich curriculum.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or above in Music Education or a related area of study from a fully accredited college or university.
• Possession of, or eligibility for, a South Carolina Teaching certificate.
• Familiarity with best practices in pedagogy, particularly in literacy instruction.
• Knowledge of the classical model of education.
• High moral character.
• Thoughtfulness, compassion, and a love of learning.

Responsibilities

• Planning and teaching content-rich, engaging lessons primarily using direct instruction and Socratic discussion techniques.
• Communicating frequently and consistently with parents about students' behavioral and academic progress as well as classroom events.
• Continuously improving instruction and content knowledge through coaching, professional development, and independent study.
• Fostering a sense of joy and wonder in the classroom and beyond.
• Maintaining high expectations for both academics and behavior through a commitment to schoolwide policies and procedures and the classical model.
