About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) at WellMed, part of UnitedHealth Group, plays a crucial role in providing patient care and support within a clinical environment. This position involves performing various medical tasks under the supervision of healthcare providers, ensuring high standards of care and patient confidentiality. The MA is responsible for organizing clinical settings, assisting in patient examinations, and maintaining compliance with health policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain it within 180 days of employment.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic computer literacy with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Tuberculosis screening and proof of immunity to certain diseases.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Bilingual

Responsibilities

  • Organizes the clinical environment and provides support in patient care situations.
  • Assists physicians and nursing personnel in various medical procedures.
  • Identifies patient needs or problems and communicates data to the provider or clinical team.
  • Delivers quality customer service and ensures adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Operates diagnostic equipment and performs quality control checks on equipment.
  • Prepares and sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave.
  • Rooms patients according to policy and procedures and prepares them for examination.
  • Records patient care documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians and company standards.
  • Respects patient confidentiality and treats patients with courtesy and respect.
  • Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms, and sterilizes instruments.
  • Practices standard infection control precautions.
  • Conducts telephone and in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information.
