About The Position

The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant/Technician will support physicians and optometrists in a busy ophthalmology practice by assisting with patient care, conducting tests, and managing office tasks. This full-time role requires a blend of technical skills and patient interaction, ensuring a smooth workflow in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Previous medical office experience required.
• Certification as an ophthalmic assistant/technician is preferred.
• Good visual acuity to read patient charts and medical documents.
• Strong grammar and communication skills are essential.
• Legible handwriting.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in an optometry or ophthalmology office.
• Field of higher education related to healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the physicians and optometrists with patient care and testing.
• Screening patients, taking medical history, and conducting vision testing.
• Using patient testing and diagnostic equipment effectively.
• Guiding patients through the office for required testing.
• Understanding anatomy and physiology of the eye and related disease processes.
• Applying aseptic techniques, sterilization, and proper handling of instruments.
• Assisting physicians with laser and surgical procedures in compliance with OSHA guidelines.
• Scribing for physicians and entering accurate information into patient medical records.
• Handling patient telephone calls and medication refill requests.
• Maintaining and caring for office equipment and instruments.
• Educating patients, including pre and post-operative instructions.
• Demonstrating the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Refracting patients as needed.
• Exhibiting punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
