About The Position

The Criminology Instructor at Fresno City College is a full-time, tenure-track position responsible for teaching a comprehensive curriculum in Criminology. The instructor will engage with a diverse student population, focusing on equity-minded practices to enhance student success. This role involves collaboration with faculty and staff, participation in curriculum development, and involvement in departmental committees. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and addressing equity gaps in education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or Associate degree and six (6) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or a valid California Community College Credential; or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical patterns of exclusion in higher education.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support racially minoritized students.
  • Experience as a full-time sworn peace officer with a POST certified law enforcement agency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers and technologies for high-quality instruction.
  • Master's degree in Criminology or a Juris Doctorate from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Willingness to complete distance education certification and teach distance-based courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full schedule of developmental and transfer level Criminology courses as assigned.
  • Participate in the formal process of curriculum development and review.
  • Engage in content delivery review to ensure contemporary and effective teaching methods.
  • Participate in the instructor evaluation process for department faculty.
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
  • Teach assignments in various instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
