The Controls Technician will utilize electrical and HVAC theory to test and modify electrical HVAC equipment and control systems in industrial or commercial settings. This role involves assembling and testing various electrical components, diagnosing malfunctions, and maintaining knowledge of VFD and HVAC equipment.

  • Assemble and test experimental motor-control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, solenoids, and other electrical equipment according to engineering data.
  • Modify electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under the direction of the Controls Operations Manager.
  • Diagnose the cause of electrical or mechanical malfunctions or failures of operational equipment by troubleshooting and performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Install and test electrical controls.
  • Maintain current knowledge of VFD equipment and HVAC equipment.
  • Develop wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansions.
  • Plan, direct, and record periodic electrical testing, recommending or initiating modifications or replacements of equipment that fails to meet acceptable operating standards.
  • 3 years of experience directly related to the duties specified.
  • Understanding of controls and programming, especially Tridium/Niagara Workbench.
  • High school diploma or GED and relevant apprentice training from an accredited school in HVAC.
