About The Position

The Central Sterile Tech II position at UNC Health Care involves processing and issuing medical and surgical supplies and instruments essential for patient care. Requirements

• Certification from an accredited program for instrument reprocessing.
• Two (2) years of central sterile technician experience.
• Successfully completed SCST portfolio requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assembles baskets of instruments, basin sets, and equipment using appropriate checklists and prepares for sterilization.
• Assembles sets of supplies and instruments used in various clinical settings, checking for cleanliness and functionality.
• Decontaminates, disinfects, and thoroughly cleans supplies, instruments, and equipment used in various procedures.
• Distributes instruments, equipment, and supplies to the appropriate locations.
• Monitors and maintains adequate levels of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
• Monitors equipment for malfunctions, makes minor repairs, and notifies appropriate staff for major repairs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of instrument and equipment IFUs and processes instruments according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Demonstrates proficiency in reprocessing and maintenance of endoscopes and other endoscopic equipment per HLD policy and manufacturer instructions.
• Maintains documentation of all actions related to scope repairs, loaners, supplies, and QI information.
• Wears PPE as per policy.
• Acts as primary preceptor.
• Serves as a leader for troubleshooting and quality improvement and assurance processes.
• Maintains supplies needed for cleaning and reprocessing, effectively communicating equipment failures and needed repairs.
• Accurately records data in appropriate logs.
