The GM/HBC Assistant Manager at Tom Thumb is responsible for ensuring exceptional customer service and maintaining high-quality product standards within the GM/HBC department. This role involves assisting with inventory management, administrative tasks, and supervising department employees to meet operational goals and customer expectations.

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling techniques.
  • Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately and resolves customer complaints as needed.
  • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Monitors production processes and ensures profitability according to company procedures.
  • Builds GM/HBC displays and ensures cleanliness of the work area and department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays and maintains department standards.
  • Monitors employee productivity and evaluates overall performance, including training and scheduling.
  • Responsible for proper code dating for all products and assists with physical inventory every 6 months.
  • Controls inventory levels and ensures product quality and freshness according to division directives.
  • Supervises the processing of reclamation and maintains orderly conditions in the back room and Drug Department areas.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of overall company practices and GM/HBC Department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and department policies.
  • Experience in retail management or supervisory roles.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and electronic ordering devices.
