About The Position

Millennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), is a fast, agile small satellite company focused on national security space, with missions impacting global security like missile warning and Earth observation. As a Systems Engineering Manager, you will lead the company’s systems engineering team, serving as a point of contact for technical, budget, and resource allocation issues. This role involves guiding, motivating, and supporting a team of approximately 10 systems engineers, resolving personnel issues, advocating for the team, and facilitating knowledge sharing and process improvement. You will be responsible for all aspects of spacecraft systems engineering, including preliminary concept development, trade studies, CONOPS definition, requirements decomposition and allocation, interface requirements definition, requirements verification and validation, support to integration and test operations, anomaly resolution, risk management, and schedule execution, all while collaborating with program and financial leadership to ensure successful programmatic execution. The internal job level for this position is K.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • At least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course "Exploring Leadership"
  • 4+ years of directly relevant aerospace industry experience
  • 1+ year of spacecraft systems engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Top Secret clearance is required post-start.

Nice To Haves

  • Internal candidates should be Principal, Senior or Lead Engineers. If candidates are Lead engineers, they should have at least 4 years of experience of which at least one year is at Millennium
  • Candidates should have served as or be currently serving as a program chief engineer or program SE lead (e.g. SV lead, Bus lead) or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to navigate sensitive discussions
  • Candidates should illustrate history of ensuring team members feel heard via active listening
  • Candidates be very organized and have demonstrated self-driven execution of objectives
  • Candidates express excitement and dedication to put in additional effort (i.e., meetings across different time zones, travel, etc.)
  • Candidates demonstrate proven effectiveness using remote communication tools to build rapport and to lead a team
  • Active Top Secret/SCI (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of ~10 systems engineers
  • Guide, motivate, and support each engineer
  • Resolve personnel issues, elevating to Director and/or HR as required
  • Advocate for their team
  • Communicate company information, share employee feedback
  • Facilitate SE mentor program, Process Improvement projects, IRAD support
  • Conduct performance reviews, evaluations, and provide feedback
  • Working with other managers, team task management
  • Promote knowledge sharing by encouraging lunch and learns and make sure peer reviews happen regularly
  • Coordinate development of SE work products and ensure efficiency of processes so that they are aligned with the team structure and tools
  • Identify necessary resources gaps
