About The Position

Omitron is seeking a Spacecraft CA Operations Engineer to provide conjunction assessment support, space situational awareness, and satellite operations support to NASA’s Conjunction Assessment Risk Analysis (CARA) Team at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The CARA Operations Team monitors and assesses potential collision threats for over 70 NASA missions, provides real-time operational support, and advises mission partners on potential avoidance maneuvers. The selected candidate will support mission planning, real-time console operations, and anomaly resolution efforts while contributing to flight dynamics analyses and operational process improvements. This role supports critical NASA mission activities in a dynamic operational environment that may include occasional shift or off-hours support.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance: None required
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related technical discipline; relevant satellite operations experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree
  • Experience: 0-2 years relevant experience
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics and the orbit determination process
  • Ability to multitask and apply innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Certifications: None required

Nice To Haves

  • Education: Advanced coursework in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, or space situational awareness
  • Experience:
  • Flight operations experience
  • Experience in orbit determination or space situational awareness
  • Experience working in Windows and Linux environments
  • Working knowledge of the Space Network and Near Earth Network
  • Familiarity with MATLAB and MySQL

Responsibilities

  • Provide mission operations support including planning, real-time console operations, anomaly investigation, and resolution
  • Support troubleshooting and recovery during fast-paced, real-time mission activities
  • Conduct and oversee flight dynamics-related analyses in support of conjunction assessment activities
  • Support space situational awareness and collision risk analysis efforts for NASA missions
  • Research and introduce new technologies and process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness
  • Support the software development lifecycle, including requirements definition, acceptance testing, and deployment activities
