About The Position

MTSI is seeking to hire an experienced Space Systems Engineer to support our Space Based Interceptor program in Huntsville, Alabama. Contract Overview: Golden Dome is a national-level, whole-of-nation initiative in which you will play a critical role in advancing next-generation homeland defense capabilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 15 years’ related experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must have an Active Top-Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility
  • 5 years’ prior experience for access to Special Access Program Information (SAP), or Controlled Access Program (CAP); must have 1 year in the last 5 years.
  • Expertise in space mission architectures, orbital mechanics, and subsystem design.
  • Familiarity with missile defense systems and space-based technologies.
  • Proficient in systems engineering tools (e.g., MATLAB, SysML, STK) and CAD software.
  • Strong knowledge of government standards and practices for DoD space systems
  • Experience in guidance, navigation, and control systems for interceptors or similar defense platforms.
  • Hands-on experience in space hardware integration and flight qualification.
  • Knowledge of emerging threats in space and counter-space capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • System Development and Integration Design and develop space systems with a focus on navigation, targeting, and interceptor functionality.
  • Perform system-level requirements analysis, flow-down, and validation to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines (payload, propulsion, guidance and control, etc.) to maintain system performance standards and achieve mission objectives.
  • Testing and Evaluation Conduct engineering and qualification testing of various components and subsystems to validate performance under space conditions.
  • Support integration, test planning, execution, and verification activities for full-system and subsystem evaluations.
  • Analyze test data and apply findings to optimize system designs.
  • Simulation and Modeling Develop simulations for operational scenarios, including guidance, navigation, and tracking performance.
  • Leverage modeling tools to predict capabilities and failure modes for space-based interceptor systems.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation Identify technical risks associated with space system development and deployment and propose mitigation plans.
  • Support trade studies to evaluate system alternatives and recommend solutions to enhance mission success.
  • Lifecycle Sustainment Lead efforts in sustaining space systems, ensuring reliability and functionality over the mission lifecycle.
  • Adapt existing designs and technologies to address emerging threats and mission evolutions.
  • Collaboration and Documentation Work closely with DoD customers, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure alignment with mission goals.
  • Prepare technical documentation including system design reviews, test reports, and operational manuals tailored for defense applications.
