About The Position

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Space Systems Engineer to join the US Space Force located in El Segundo, CA through 100% full onsite presence. The Space Systems Engineer will lead systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle of space programs - from concept through operations - focusing on satellite guidance systems, risk management, and mission-critical integration. This high-impact role demands deep technical leadership, experience in national security space programs, and a Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of systems engineering experience & a Bachelor's degree (eg., electrical, aerospace, systems)
  • Extensive experience with satellite systems integration, hardware development, and overseeing full lifecycle phases (design through sustainment)
  • Strong knowledge of system architecture, requirements flown-down, risk management, and verification planning
  • Proven ability to lead & analyze Interface Control Documents (ICDs), configuration management, and technical baselining
  • Experience developing or producing electronic subsystems for guidance or space systems
  • Familiarity with National Security Space missions, particularly Space Control or Space Domain Awareness programs
  • Must have current Top Secret security clearance (T5/SSBI) and be SCI-eligible and polygraph-ready

Responsibilities

  • Lead Systems Engineering Across the Lifecycle: drive technical efforts from concept development through design, integration test, and operation sustainment for space-based systems
  • Guide Electronic Component Development: provide oversight & technical direction of the design, manufacturing, and integration of guidance & electronic subsystems
  • Architect System Designs & Requirements Flow down: define operational concepts, evolve architectures, and ensure traceable, testable requirements across subsystems & contractors
  • Implement Risk Management Strategies: identify program risks, perform root-cause analysis, & develop mitigation plans to maintain cost, schedule, and technical performance
  • Manage Configuration Control: maintain the integrity of the program's technical baseline & oversee change management throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support Integration & Test Campaigns: lead hardware integration activities & ensure systems meet performance specifications through formal verification methods
  • Contribute to National Security Space Objectives: support Space Systems Command & the US Space Force's missions within Space Control & Space Domain Awareness portfolios
  • Collaborate Across Mission Partners: establish strong relationships with US Government stakeholders & industry teams to align on system goals, interfaces & readiness
